The Fine Rustic Story

Rooted in Craftsmanship, Built with Heart
Since 2013, we’ve had the joy of creating handcrafted, custom furniture for families and homes across the U.S. From cozy TV stands and statement dining sets to functional kitchen islands and our one-of-a-kind, patented dog kennels—every piece we make is built with care, character, and a whole lot of heart.
What began as a passion project has grown into a small but mighty business fueled by creativity and connection. As a proud U.S. military family, we’ve brought our love for rustic style to each new chapter—and we’re so excited to share that our workshop is now fully up and running in beautiful Honolulu, Hawaii.
While we continue to grow, we’re currently serving and delivering exclusively on the island of Oʻahu. And if you’d like to see where the magic happens, we’d love to welcome you for a workshop visit—just reach out to book an appointment while our storefront is in the works.
Thank you for being part of our journey. Your support means the world, and we’re honored to help bring your vision to life, one custom piece at a time.
With gratitude,
The Fine Rustic Team

Created to Create: The Growth of Designer Joy
Hello, I’m JOY—a designer who believes in the beauty of creating with heart, purpose, and a touch of magic rooted in family and faith.
I come from a family of artists and creators. My mother ran a sewing factory, my father was a painter, and my aunts were gifted in music, playing piano and violin. Surrounded by creativity, I naturally found myself drawn to the arts. My journey began in Korea, where I had the honor of attending one of the country’s most prestigious art high schools—a school that only a few could enter after passing a highly competitive exam. There, I explored various forms of art, but it was sculpture and design that truly captured my soul.
I was consistently ranked among the top students and had the special privilege of winning a school uniform design competition. To this day—over 20 years later—students still wear the uniform I designed. Knowing that something I created continues to be part of someone else’s daily life is incredibly meaningful to me.
After graduation, I stepped into the world of animation and game design, working my way up to become a design team leader at a renowned company. On a team trip, I met the man who would later become my husband. After a long-distance relationship, we married in the U.S., where we began our new life together in a small, cozy home.
It was there that my hands found wood and my imagination took root again. I started a humble workshop, and one day, I casually posted a photo of a barn door TV stand and a coffee table I had made. To my surprise, they sold out almost instantly. That single post opened the door to a new chapter: custom furniture design.
As orders started coming in, I began dreaming of creating something truly unique. That journey wasn’t easy. I spent countless nights researching, sketching, experimenting—sometimes working until 2 a.m. in my pajamas, completely immersed in the process. I still remember my husband walking in during one of those nights and saying, “You must be crazy,” with a smile on his face. It was a crazy kind of love—love for my craft.
Eventually, that love and hard work paid off. I designed something that was both functional and beautiful: The Fine Rustic Original Dog Kennel. It went viral on social media, drew national attention, and even earned me a patent. That piece—born from countless nights of trial and error—became a symbol of creativity, persistence, and heart.
Even now, as we live in Hawaii for my husband’s military service, I continue to receive messages, inquiries, and custom orders from across the country. Every message is a reminder of how far this little dream has come, and how deeply it has resonated with others.
This journey has been full of unexpected turns, late nights, big dreams, and quiet victories. But more than anything, it’s been a story of love—love for my family, for art, for beauty, and for the joy of creating something meaningful. I’m grateful for everyone who has supported me along the way.
Thank you for being here and for following this journey. Keep creating, keep dreaming, and always hold on to what sets your heart on fire.
With love,
JOY

Veteran-Owned, Heartfully Crafted – Meet Justin
With just a few years remaining before I retire from the U.S. Navy, I’ve spent the past decade building not just a second career—but a meaningful and deeply personal journey—alongside my incredibly talented wife. While my days have been defined by service and discipline, my evenings and weekends have been dedicated to something equally purposeful: handcrafting furniture that reflects quality, integrity, and timeless design.
My wife is the visionary—she brings a natural artistic eye and an intuitive sense for beauty and harmony. I provide the structure: selecting premium hardwoods, focusing on precision and clean craftsmanship, and ensuring each piece is built to stand the test of time. Together, we’ve created more than just furniture—we’ve built a life grounded in love, creativity, and a shared commitment to excellence.
I believe that the foundation of true craftsmanship is never rushed. It’s built through patience, honesty, and respect for the material. Whether I’m cutting joints, sanding surfaces, or applying a finish, I treat every step with care—because every piece we make carries the trust of a customer who’s inviting our work into their home.
Over the years, we’ve created over 1,000 custom pieces—from signature barn door TV stands and farmhouse tables to our patented Fine Rustic Original Dog Kennel. Every item reflects our dedication to functional beauty, practical design, and the kind of quality that lasts for generations.
If you’re thinking about a custom piece—or simply need advice on wood types, finishes, or style options—I’d be honored to connect with you. Leave your contact information, and I’ll personally reach out to offer honest guidance based on years of hands-on experience. Whether it’s your first custom project or a special addition to your home, I’m here to help you create something beautiful, functional, and truly built to last.
